Regardless of gaining notoriety as a beloved sitcom, “Friends,” together with co-creator Marta Kauffman, has been criticized for the dearth of inclusion and variety on the present. Largely just lately, Kauffman has addressed the critique surrounding the present’s lack of LGBTQ+ consciousness and illustration, lastly admitting that Chandler Bing’s transgender mother or father was misgendered.

People reported that in an upcoming episode of BBC’s “The Conversation,” Kauffman acknowledged that the character Helena Handbasket, portrayed by Kathleen Turner, should not have been known as Chandler’s father. “We stored referring to her as Chandler’s father, although Chandler’s father was trans,” Kauffman stated. “Pronouns weren’t but one thing that I understood, so we did not discuss with that character as ‘she.’ That was a mistake.”
