The members of workforce SUNO had been no strangers to the trials and tribulations of the pandemic, and Thukral tells STIR, “Final yr in April, India witnessed the deadliest COVID wave because the starting. My total household together with me had examined constructive, and we had been remoted in numerous rooms of my residence. With an overburdened healthcare infrastructure and shortage of hospital beds, I’d get up and fall asleep anxiously every day to the ambulance sirens, and would draw the curtains to chop myself off from the overwhelming world outdoors. The frequency of those sirens over the span of 14 days of isolation helped me assess the extent of the COVID scenario. I quickly recorded these sounds on my cell phone as an archive, realising the affect sound has on the human mind and its well-being. It was throughout this time that Kanchan had shared the open name for the Serendipity Arts Digital Grant 2021 with me. I drew on these vivid experiences whereas mapping the sounds, synthesising our analysis and constructing the narrative for SUNO together with her and Mayank.”
