David Collins’ design throughout all these areas reveals a studious data of Japanese arts and crafts – with wooden panelling, patterns and architectural parts all through giving a nod to conventional artisan practices, similar to Buro (patchwork), the traditional artwork of Sumi-e (mark making) and tatami mat-making.
