Are the AirPods Max a sign of how expensive a headset could be?
Gurman’s report on Apple’s VR headset suggests a high price for the hardware. That makes sense from Apple. Last year, a report from Apple leaker Jon Prosser said a product named the Apple Glass would start at $499 plus prescription add-ons such as lenses. That price sounds hard to believe for a new Apple product. Sure, the original iPad started at $500. The Apple Watch was around the same. But AR and VR hardware, with the exception of the Oculus Quest, is more complicated. The business-focused HoloLens and Magic Leap cost thousands of dollars. Current VR headsets have trended towards $500 or more.
