BOONE, N.C. — “Who doesn’t love snacks?” asks Karalee Cole, a speech-language pathologist and medical educator within the Charles E. and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic at Appalachian State College. Cole is the creator of a summer season program that pairs enjoyable, hands-on wholesome snack preparation and sampling with a speech-language pathology curriculum to assist kids enhance their language and literacy expertise.
“As educators, we frequently see declines in speech and language expertise over the summer season, when programming isn’t obtainable by way of colleges,” Cole defined. “I wished to create one thing enjoyable, the place college students don’t even understand they’re engaged on their language and literacy expertise as a result of these classes have been infused with snacking — which the scholars are at all times enthusiastic about.”
