South Sudan: IPC Food Security & Nutrition Snapshot – Acute Food Insecurity: February – March 2022; Acute Malnutrition: January – December 2022 – South Sudan

Between February and March 2022, 36 counties throughout the nation have been categorized in Emergency (IPC Section 4) and 40 counties in Disaster (IPC Section 3), with solely two counties categorized in Harassed (IPC Section 2) acute meals insecurity. Within the projection interval of April to July 2022, 52 counties are categorized in Emergency (IPC Section 4), 23 counties in Disaster (IPC Section 3), and three counties in Harassed (IPC Section 2).

Meals insecurity in South Sudan is pushed by climatic shocks (floods, dry spells, and droughts), insecurity (brought on by sub-national and localized violence), inhabitants displacements, persistent annual cereal deficits, illnesses and pests, the financial disaster, the consequences of COVID-19, restricted entry to fundamental providers, and the cumulative results of extended years of asset depletion that proceed to erode households’ coping capacities, and the lack of livelihoods.
