The decision got here rapidly, and it was from none apart from Janet—as in, Ms. Jackson. She was trying to rent Dewan as a backup dancer for her “Doesn’t Actually Matter” video; a spot on her 2001 “All for You” tour got here shortly after.
“She is my touchpoint, she is the beginning of my all the things, she is the beginning of my complete profession,” Dewan tells me quietly over the cellphone. “I owe her a lot. It was such a selected dream of mine once I was a child. To have had that have so younger…it’s overwhelming once I give it some thought. I’m nonetheless in awe of all of it.”
