Android is famously open supply, even when the additional companies added by Google and the assorted producers are usually not. How usable is the ‘clear’ model from the Android Open Supply Challenge? David Ruddock talks about implementing AOSP on the newest Android Bytes podcast:
“…it’s lacking essential elements just like the Google Play Retailer, Google Play Companies, and most Google functions. What you won’t know is that fixing this isn’t so simple as flashing a couple of apps, and that AOSP even accommodates its personal GMS dependencies which will or will not be documented. This renders AOSP largely unusable “out of the field” as an working system. You might want to add to it, construct on it, and fill characteristic gaps. However how do you even determine the place these gaps are, not to mention how you can handle them?”
