Rodale was born Jerome Irving Cohen in 1898 in Manhattan to an immigrant Jewish household from Russia. Conscious from his youth of his coronary heart murmur and concern about his well being, Rodale was significantly depressed when the military turned him down when he tried to enlist throughout World Battle I due to his poor eyesight. Rodale’s relationship along with his father was strained from his youth, which is why he modified his final title to Rodale to honor his mom’s maiden title, Rouda.







History's Headlines: Prophet of organic farming

Rodale started working life as an accountant from 1917 to 1920 and labored for the Inner Income Service from 1920 to 1921. In 1923 along with his brother Joseph, he fashioned Rodale Manufacturing, a maker {of electrical} tools.
