Metabolic adaptation to vitamin auxotrophy by leaf-associated bacteria

Extension 2: Carbon cross-feeding

The second carbon supply was simulated by setting a secretion flux just for strains whose development fee was higher than a given threshold (diverse from 0.3 −h to 0.6 h−1). The secretion flux was scaled down by 50% from the glucose uptake fee. At t = 0, S2 = 0.

The secretion of S2 into the medium by fast-growing strains was subsequently managed by

$$r_{S_2} = left{ {start{array}{*{20}{c}} {r_{glc,,pressure} ast 0.5,}&mu _{pressure} ge threshold hfill0,&{mu _{pressure} , < , threshold} finish{array}} proper.$$

The change in focus of [S2] was then

$$frac{{dleft[ {S_2} right]}}{{dt}} = sumleft( {frac{{10 ast overline {r_{s2,,Pressure}} ast overline {left[ {Strain} right]} }}{{overline {C_{Pressure}} }}} proper) ast left[ {S_2} right]$$
