The second carbon supply was simulated by setting a secretion flux just for strains whose development fee was higher than a given threshold (diverse from 0.3 −h to 0.6 h−1). The secretion flux was scaled down by 50% from the glucose uptake fee. At t = 0, S2 = 0.
The secretion of S2 into the medium by fast-growing strains was subsequently managed by
